Researchers tie excitement to physical activity

The winter can bring a lull about your every day life. However, it’s important to make sure you stay active, or you may get into a slump. One way to keep happy is through exercise. Although you may not be able to go running outside like you would when the temperature is more welcoming, you can hit the soft rubber floor tiles of the gym and work out in a nice temperature-controlled room.

According to researchers from Penn State University, people who are more physically active have a higher level of enthusiasm and excitement in their lives. Additionally, these feelings were more prevalent on days where the subjects were more physically active than usual.

“We found that people who are more physically active have more pleasant-activated feelings than people who are less active, and we also found that people have more pleasant-activated feelings on days when they are more physically active than usual,” said Amanda Hyde, one of the study’s researchers.

为了完成这项研究中,研究人员问students from more than 190 universities to keep diaries, which included timed physical activity that lasted more than 15 minutes, sleep quantity and quality and overall mental health. The study’s authors noted that those who did the most physical activity had the most enthusiasm, which could help promote the importance of working out.

Those who are trying to think of a way to beat the winter blues may want to consider boosting their physical activity levels.

Study observes stress of business owners

As a business owner, there are a lot of things to worry about. In this economy, being able to navigate through the rough waters is essential, and many business owners are trying to figure out how to propel themselves to the next level. In a recent study by The American College, a nonprofit education institution, researchers observed female business owners and their fears of the future.

Of the female business owners surveyed, 15 percent said that they were extremely stressed about the current status of their business. Not only did these women have a low work-life balance, but they also worry about nearly every aspect of the company.

However, there isn’t all bad news. One-third, or 33 percent, of female respondents said that they were dreaming about the future of their business. Not only were they thinking about taking risks, but they also felt they were financially stable and may even consider moving into retirement.

Whatever position you find yourself in as a small business owner, it’s important to make moves that will ensure the longevity of your company. For starters, you may want to consider rebranding yourself. One way to do this is through the logo. You should be sure to advertise your business by any means necessary, from business cards to jet print logo mats. Advertising your business may be just what you need to be worry-free about your entrepreneurial endeavor.

Research delves into helmet saftey

It’s the season for winter sports, and kids everywhere are hitting the skate-spike resistant matting to lace up before heading out onto the ice. However, parents worry about what their son or daughter is wearing for protection, as winter sports can be dangerous when players are not properly protected.

现在,研究者们正在寻找put parental worries at ease by studying what kinds of helmets kids should be wearing when they get involved into winter sports. The study, published in Journal of Neurosurgery: Pediatrics, discussed the importance of having a child wear a helmet.

“We defined helmet safety performance by the ability of a helmet to reduce acceleration of the head during the impact,” said Dr. Blaine Hoshizaki, director of the Neurotrauma Impact Laboratory at the University of Ottawa, and co-author of this study. “Helmets are designed and tested to mitigate the risk of an injury; they are not designed to eliminate head injuries. Parents must be vigilant and educate their children about ways to be safe and have fun outdoors.”

When testing helmets, the study’s authors found that hockey helmets are not only great for the sport in which they’re meant for, but other winter activities too. The researchers noted that hockey helmets were great in protecting children during a number of low velocity sports, including tobogganing. Even if your kids aren’t playing hockey, these helmets can be great even if they’re just skating around the rink.

Keeping everyone aware of workplace hazards

The weather is really starting to feel like winter for many areas across the United States, and there are a number of hazards that come with it. However, there are some hazards that are around all year round. Business owners are ultimately responsible for their coworkers and patrons’ safety, which is why it is key that they take extra precautions in making sure people are aware of dangers such as slippery walks and wet floors.

Investing in safety messaging mats can be a great way to alert anyone if there are dangers nearby. Not only can these be used for icy conditions, but they are perfect for letting anyone know if they need certain protection such as ear plugs of safety glasses before they enter an area. These are geared more toward construction sites, laboratories and other manufacturing facilities.

There are also steps you can take to keep your workers safe aside from labeling specific vulnerabilities. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, those who run an office setting should think about the setup and design. Not only are office temperature, light and humidity factors in keeping people comfortable, but having furniture that requires over-reaching, sitting awkwardly or staying in the same position too can also cause massive discomfort. It may be a good idea to talk to employees about how they can make their setting more comfortable.
