Thinking about a logo change? You’re not alone

If you’re wondering if you should rebrand your company, don’t worry – there are plenty of established businesses that have gone through the same uncertainty you have. While you may worry about alienating your customers or having to change all of the designs on your logo mats, you may be surprised to find out that many people don’t tend to notice.
According toBusiness Insider, a number of well-known brands have changed their logo design within the past year. Interestingly, many people didn’t seem to notice some of these rebrands. Tazo Tea, American Airlines, Nivea and the Vitamin Shop have all undergone some major design changes. However, other organizations, such as Livestrong, made simple changes (such as removing the “Lance Armstrong Foundation” part of the Livestrong logo).
MSN Moneyreports that changing a logo design isn’t uncommon, in fact many companies do this every few years in order to stay modern despite the changing time. The news provider points to big businesses such as Coke and Apple, both of which have upgraded their icons in order to meet their audiences’ needs.

Areas tout their manufacturing outlook

The manufacturing sector has been somewhat inconsistent as of late, but analysts suggest that there is hope for those in the industry. There could be more manufacturing jobs popping up as a result of a facility’s performance, potentially bringing lots of workers back onto anti-fatigue mats as they work the facility. However, some areas are experiencing greater growth than others.
According to theLos Angeles Times, the country’s manufacturing sector has shown promise, with some economists hopeful for what that could mean for the overall economy.
“Clearly, manufacturing production growth significantly outpaced overall economic growth early this year and has recently been correcting to the relatively slow pace of growth in the overall economy,” Daniel J. Meckstroth, chief economist for the Manufacturers Alliance for Productivity and Innovation, told the news provider.
However, where one gets a job may depend on an area-specific job market. According toTriangle Business Journal, the country has added more than 520,000 manufacturing jobs since January 2010. Michigan ranked in first place for the best bet for getting a manufacturing career, followed by Texas, Indiana, Ohio and Wisconsin. Michigan’s manufacturing economy created 88,100 jobs between December 2009 and March 2013, according to the news provider. Rounding out the list at number 20 was Kansas with 6,800 jobs created in that timeframe.

Could a collaborative design be bad for business?

According toSmart Planet, some offices are choosing to take a collaborative office design approach. While this may help from a design aspect, productivity may be another story. The news provider points to design and architecture firm Gensler, which suggests that it may not make for an optimal work environment.
In addition to company furniture, logo mats and designs, the idea behind collaborative decorating is that open offices get to have their employees pitch in with the design aspect.
”Results show that a lack of effective focus space drags down the effectiveness of all other work modes: collaboration, learning and socializing, as well as the effectiveness of the workplace as a whole,” the researchers note.
Still, some companies are pushing forward, according toCBS News. As the business world continues to evolve with new technologies, offices are taking a different approach to help workers interact with one another. This means the cubicle walls are coming down and employees are working together in a more collaborative environment. Although there still could be a question of productivity, helping workers interact for one another can, at the very least, promote team building.

AMA urges workers to stop sitting for long hours

Keeping workers healthy is essential for most businesses, but they may be doing employees a disservice without even realizing it. TheLos Angeles Timespoints to a recent study from the American Medical Association that suggests sitting for too long of a time period could lead to obesity.
In fact, the researchers are encouraging workplaces across the country to offer other alternatives to sitting all day long.
“Prolonged sitting, particularly in work settings, can cause health problems, and encouraging work places to offer employees alternatives to sitting all day will help to create a healthier workforce,” AMA board member Dr. Patrice Harris said in a statement.
There are other ways workers can do their jobs without worrying about putting their health at risk. For example, buying embossed anti fatigue mats for the office can encourage standing while still protecting workers’ legs from feeling tired and strained.
If you’re worried about your workers sitting too long on the job, you’re not alone. According to theMayo Clinic, as much as 70 percent of Americans reportedly sit more than six hours a day. To that point, the news provider suggests that if people were to cut their sitting time in half – roughly three hours a day – they could add up to two years to their life expectancy.
