Industry experts frequently warn against making too many logo changes in fear of alienating customers. If a brand’s logo is suddenly unrecognizable, less people may pay attention to it. However, some companies think it’s okay to swipe out their logo mats in favor of a new, innovative design.
According toBenzinga, the technology sector seems to be making a trend out of changing logos. Both Bing and Yahoo have revealed brand-new logos in recent months, and now media outlets are accusing Google of taking a flat approach, similar to Apple’s design.
The news provider reports that Google is insisting it didn’t change it’s logo, despite the fact it is now missing the 3D shadows it used to have. Instead, a spokesperson said that the tech giant is only using the flat look when Google is being displayed on a printed banner or another medium where 3D wouldn’t look right – say, a logo mat perhaps?
While some people may get on board with the new logos, it appears some companies are having to defend their decision for change. According to theHuffington Post, Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer defended the logo change, saying it was the first time the company did that since 1995 and it had to usher in a new era.
